UA Competitive Academic Scholarship Q & A
Loading...
Q: Will only those without a test score receive early announcement of the UA Competitive Academic Scholarship?
A: Students with and without a test score will be eligible for early announcements of the UA Competitive Academic Scholarship.
Q: If I already have a merit scholarship, can I receive both the merit and the UA Competitive Academic Scholarship?
A: No, students will be ranked on the UA Competitive Academic Scale based on the quality of their scholarship application compared to other applicants in the pool. If a student’s UA Competitive Academic Scholarship is of greater value than their awarded merit scholarship at the time of review, the student will be upgraded to the UA Competitive Academic Scholarship and will no longer receive the merit scholarship.
Q: If I am awarded a UA Competitive Academic Scholarship in December but later receive an entrance exam test score that makes me eligible for a merit scholarship, should I submit my test score?
A: Yes, students are encouraged to submit any entrance exam test scores they receive. If the test score qualifies the student for a greater valued merit scholarship than their current UA Competitive Academic Scholarship, the student will be upgraded to the merit scholarship and will no longer receive the UA Competitive Academic Scholarship. If the test score qualifies the student for a lesser valued merit scholarship than their current UA Competitive Academic Scholarship, the student will keep the currently awarded UA Competitive Academic Scholarship.
Q: Will only the UA Competitive Academic Scholarships be released in the early rounds?
A: Yes, only the UA Competitive Academic Scholarships will be released in the early rounds. All other competitive scholarships, such as alumni and college scholarships, will be released during the first week of March via the Consolidated Offer Letters, including UA Competitive Academic Scholarships that were not released early.
Q: If I receive a UA Competitive Academic Scholarship, can I receive another competitive scholarship?
A: Yes, students that receive a UA Competitive Academic Scholarship can receive additional competitive scholarships, such as those awarded by the college that house their major and alumni. Additional competitive scholarships will be released when Consolidated Scholarship Offer Letters become available during the first week of March.
Q: If I do not receive the value I hoped for from the UA Competitive Academic Scholarship, will I be eligible for an upgrade on this scale later?
A: No, the value of a UA Competitive Academic Scholarship is based on the ranking of the student’s scholarship application compared to other students in the pool and the student’s core GPA. The student’s rank will not change.
However, if the student has a test score from or before February that qualifies them for a greater merit scholarship, the submission of that test score before May 1 will result in an upgraded award. The student may also qualify for other competitive awards, which once stacked with their current award, may reach their desired value.
Q: Will UA re-award scholarships declined by other students?
A: Yes, there will be a re-award period following decision day. However, the likelihood of additional awards is small. Re-awards will not include Automatic Merit Scholarships or Competitive Academic Scholarships. It is in families’ best interest to prepare for The University of Alabama with their financial aid and scholarship offer available at decision day.
Q: If a student doesn’t receive notification for a UA Competitive Academic Scholarship in the round following the submission cut-off date, will they continue to be rolled into the following rounds?
A: Yes. If a student submitted their scholarship application before a submission cut-off date and is not awarded in the respective round, they will continue to roll over for review until the final round the first week of March.
Q: Will students that wait to submit their competitive scholarship application until January 15 be disadvantaged compared to a student who submitted their scholarship application earlier?
A: No, a student that decides to wait until the priority deadline to submit their scholarship application will not be disadvantaged in anyway.
Q: How do I complete my scholarship application?
